Privacy Policy
What we collect when you use this website, why, and what happens to it.
Who we are
The Print Shop Tunstall, 72 Roundwell Street, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 5AN. Telephone 01782 822579, email theprintshop@live.co.uk.
We are the data controller for the information described here. If you have a question about it, get in touch in any of the ways above.
What we collect, and why
- When you send an enquiry or place an order: your name, email address, phone number if you give one, what you asked for and any notes you add. That includes whatever you type into our designers, such as the name and contact details on a business card. We need this to price the job, do the work and tell you when it is ready, so the law lets us use it to carry out the order you asked for.
- When you send us a message: your name, email address, the message and any files you attach. We use them to reply, which is in both our interests.
- When you answer one of our emails: your answer and anything attached to it are kept with the order or message it is about, so whoever picks it up sees the whole conversation. They are kept, and deleted, along with it.
- Artwork you upload: whatever you send us to print. It is yours; we use it for your job and nothing else.
- When you use the website: like almost every website, our server keeps a log of each request: your IP address, your browser, the page asked for and when. We use it to keep the site working and secure.
- Spam checks: our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated spam. To do that, Cloudflare sees your IP address and some details of your browser. It is in our interest, and yours, that the forms are not buried in junk.
We only email you about your own order or message. We send no newsletters or marketing, we do not build a profile of you, and no decision about you is made automatically.
Cookies and browser storage
We use no advertising or analytics cookies, and nothing that follows you to other sites. The few cookies this site sets are the ones it cannot work without, which is why there is no cookie banner to click through:
- pct, kept for a day after your last visit: a security token, so a form submitted on this site really came from this site.
- ucid, kept for 30 days and only set once you upload artwork or send us something: it ties the artwork to you, so you can attach it to your own order and nobody else can open it.
- sid, kept for 12 hours: a login session, only for shop staff signing in to the admin.
Your cart is kept in your own browser’s storage, not on our server, and is never sent to us until you send your order. Once you have, the browser also notes the order number, so the cart is only emptied once. The business card designer keeps what you type and choose there too, so a card you started is still there next time; its “Start afresh” button clears it.
The Google Maps directions link and the buttons for sharing a product on Facebook, X or WhatsApp are plain links. Nothing is sent to those sites unless you click one, and then their own privacy policies apply. The fonts on this site come from our own server, not from a third party.
Who else sees it
We do not sell or share your details. The only other companies involved are the ones that make the site work, and each handles only what it needs to do its part:
- Our web host, on whose servers the site and its data are stored.
- Brevo, who send our emails to you, and the provider of our own mailbox, where copies of orders and messages arrive.
- Cloudflare, for the spam check on our forms (Cloudflare’s privacy policy (opens in a new tab)).
Some of these companies store or process data outside the UK, for example in the EU or the US. Where they do, it is protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires. We will also pass on information if the law obliges us to, for example to HMRC or the police.
How long we keep it
- Orders, and the artwork attached to them, are kept while we may still need them for the job or a reprint. Our record of the sale is kept for six years, because tax law requires it.
- Messages that do not lead to an order are deleted once we no longer need them, and within two years at most.
- Artwork uploaded but never sent to us is deleted automatically within 30 days.
- Server logs are deleted after 14 days.
- Backups of the site are kept for 30 days, so anything deleted is gone from them within a month.
Ask us and we will delete anything we are not obliged to keep.
Keeping it safe
The site only works over an encrypted connection. Orders, messages and artwork can only be seen by shop staff who sign in, and artwork you upload can only be opened by you and by us.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or object to how we use it. It costs nothing, and we will answer within a month. Email theprintshop@live.co.uk or ring the shop and we will sort it out.
If you are not happy with how we have handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk (opens in a new tab) or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date below.
